The sixteenth issue of the African Ounce series from Rwanda is dedicated to the Nile crocodile. The motif shows an image of the African continent and a Nile crocodile with a young animal. The Nile crocodile is one of the best-known crocodile species in the world and originates from the entire African continent. Nowadays, the reptile only lives in the upper reaches of the Nile and in isolated African waters. It can reach a total length of up to 6 meters and weigh up to 1000 kilograms. The Nile crocodile can be recognized by its dark, bronze-green back, which is covered with small black spots, and its porcelain-coloured underside. The Nile crocodile has been on the Red List of endangered species since 1973 due to human threats. The African Ounce series with an annually changing motif honors a different African animal species each year. The silver bullion coin is delivered shrink-wrapped in the original protective foil.
